Resources for Soccer Moms & Dads

How do I register? What does U15 mean? How can I support my player? Can someone please explain offsides to me?

Every soccer mom and dad has questions, and below we'll do our best to help answer some of the most commonly asked questions.

How much does this all cost?

LUFC publishes fees for all programs every programming year. Please see the latest document below for the current programming year.

2025/2026 FEE SCHEDULE

If you are experiencing financial hardship, Lakeshore United offers a variety of options through our KickBack program, including reduced program fees, financial scholarships, and equipment exchanges.

Can someone explain the birth year system? What does U7, U8, U9 mean?

For Lakeshore United's in-house leagues and programs (Juniors, Community Soccer, Summer League, Futsal), we typically assign teams based on grade level. But as players move into the Academy and Select programs and compete in US Youth Soccer sanctioned leagues and tournaments, we use the US Soccer Age Group Classification system which is based on birth year.

The "U" group is based off a simple formula:

Year Season Ends – Birth Year = Age Group
For example: 2020-21 (Season) – 2006 (Birth Year) = U15 (Age Group)

Players and teams are eligible to play in a higher age group (i.e. - a U13 player may compete on a U14 team) but cannot compete in a lower age group (i.e. - a U13 player cannot compete on a U12 team). Select Tryouts are also be done by age group. Please see the Age Group Chart for reference.

What type of safety procedures do you follow?

At LUFC, we strive to provide quality soccer experiences for our members in a safe and healthy environment. In an effort to achieve this goal, LUFC has compiled a set of safety policies and guidelines regarding several areas of the organization. The objective is to outline procedures, many of them new, which can be followed by players, coaches, parents and others to provide a safe, enjoyable place for our children.

The Player Safety Policies and Guidelines focus on:

  • Parent Responsibilities at Practice and Games
  • Transportation
  • Inclement Weather Procedures
  • Check-in and Check-out Procedures
  • Medical Releases and Situations
  • LUFC (Background Checks)
  • Movement of Soccer Goals
  • Injury Information

Team Managers, please review and incorporate the policy topics in this overview with your team's parents. LUFC thanks you for helping take care of all of our kids.

What about concussions?

Avoiding proper concussion treatment can end soccer careers, even for top athletes in the game. Take concussions seriously. When in doubt, sit them out!

What is a Concussion? A concussion is a brain injury that:

  • Is caused by a bump or blow to the head
  • Can change the way your brain normally works
  • Can occur during practices or games in any sport
  • Can happen even if you haven't been knocked out
  • Can be serious even if you've just been "dinged"

What are the symptoms of a concussion?

  1. Headache or pressure in the head
  2. Nausea or vomitting
  3. Balance problems or dizziness
  4. Double or blurry vision
  5. Appears dazed or confused
  6. Is confused about assignment or position
  7. Forgets an instruction
  8. Unsure of game details (score, opponent, etc.)
  9. Moves clumsily
  10. Answers questions slowly
  11. Loses consciousness (even briefly)
  12. Shows mood, behavior or personality changes
  13. Can't recall events prior to or after head injury

It is everyone's responsibility - coaches, parents, and players - to be aware of these signs and familiarize themselves following proper procedures when you suspect a concussion has occurred.

How are winter weather cancellations handled?

During the indoor Futsal season, we will make every effort to give at a minimum notice of 2hrs for any cancellations. Cancellation notices will be posted in Playmetrics and social media.

Sometimes conditions get worse as the day goes on. In these situations we may proceed with games as scheduled during the first part of the day, but then make a call to cancel all games after a specific time. Again, we will do our best to give 2hrs notice in these situations as well.

Winter weather in Wisconsin can be challenging to predict. Please be patient with us as we strive to make the best decisions about player (and parent) safety on the roads and all of our desires to get on the field and play.
